A laser is a strong beam of light to treat many oral problems. These problems include:
• herpetic lesions (cold sores)
• Apthous ulcers (canker sores)
• Tooth desensitization
• Treating periodontal disease
• Treatment of a variety of small lesions
• Gum contouring
Lasers help significantly in treatment of periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is a bacterial infection in the pockets and gum tissue around teeth. After your regular hygiene therapy, lasers can be used to remove the disease causing bacteria from the pockets.
Your dental and periodontal health is our top priority. The dental examination starts with a visual examination, x-rays are taken to help determine the health of hard tissues in your mouth. We use digital technology to reduce the radiation exposure. Intraoral images are taken to point out potential problems like cracked teeth. An Oral cancer screen is carried out at our office regularly to make sure the tissue in the head and neck and mouth are healthy. We will then assess your gum health beginning with periodontal probing that checks the status of your gums around each tooth. We check for gum recession, bleeding and observe any plaque and calculus (tartar) build-up. With these tools, we are able to give you a comprehensive assessment of your dental and periodontal health.
